When I needed a monitor to check on my kids, these things were much more basic. This baby monitor connects with an iPhone, iPad or an android phone (I don’t have an android, so can’t tell you how well it works).

Many parents have a smart phone, so it’s ideal to connect a baby monitor to this gadget they have with them anyway. It incorporates a webcam and a speakerphone, so you can actually talk to you baby from “far away”.
